World of Warcraft - Item Upgrade
Item upgrades allow players to increase the level of weapons and armor that are equippable. This improves the stats of that equipment, in addition to sometimes adding buffs or the rerolling of an affix.
It is important to remember that even though you can upgrade magic and common equipment, it's usually not worth it. Rare and Unique equipment will quickly surpass upgraded magic and common gear.
Cost
If a player wants to upgrade an item, they must spend Gold to upgrade the item. The cost to upgrade an item is based on the current level of the item and the type of upgrade. Upgrades to weapons are usually cheaper than upgrades for armor, since weapons have lower requirements. The amount of Gold required increases as an item is upgraded.
A new item will also have improved stats, which can improve its performance in a variety of ways. This could mean increasing its attack power critical strike chance, or damage per second. Additionally, an upgraded item may be able to give additional buffs to the unit it is equipped with. These upgrades can be used to boost the overall strength of a group or unit, and may be a major influence on the gameplay.
The NPC for upgrading items can be located in the game. These NPCs can be found in the major questing areas or capital cities. Players can also find upgraders by visiting dungeons with high-level bosses, or by talking to the NPCs in their garrisons for their faction.
The World of Warcraft item upgrade system allows players to upgrade the level of armor, weapons and trinkets. Certain upgraded items can only be rerolled if the initial item was Unique Epic, Rare or Rare. Some exceptional items are also allowed to be rerolled, but their original stats will be replaced with an uninvolved bonus. Rerolling a Rare or Epic item will result in a Normal version, and doing the same with the Epic version will result in an elite version.

Certain upgrade components can be equipped with additional cosmetic effects. Players can obtain upgrade item s by crafting, purchasing from vendors or the Trading Post, looting, or receiving as rewards. Players can also find upgraded items by using an Upgrade extractor or salvaging using a salvage of a higher tier kit. Glyphs that are placed in gathering tools are able to be swapped out without restrictions.
A player can reroll an item into a different upgradeable item by selecting it and pressing the green button with an arrow that indicates reroll. This will change the layout of the game and allow players to select up to six items to be used for "recycling". The item that is recycled will be exchanged with an item at level 1 of the same kind. Recycled items will not keep their level, nor the resources used to upgrade them.
The highest level of upgrade an item can achieve is determined by its quality and tier. Common items can be upgraded to an maximum of level six, while Rare and Epic items can be upgraded up to level nine. The upgrade of an item is added to the base statistics of the item. This means that they will not increase in the future after a certain level.
